Genesis 11:1
Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.

About this Chapter

In Genesis 11, people on earth spoke the same language and decided to build a tower that would reach to the heavens, in order to make a name for themselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth. However, God came down to see the city and the tower, and He confused their language so that they could not understand each other. As a result, the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. This story teaches us that pride and self-centeredness can lead to division and confusion. Instead of seeking our own glory, we should humble ourselves before God and seek unity with others.
