Easy Bible・Genesis 16
Genesis 16:1
Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar;
In Genesis 16, we learn about Hagar, who was Sarai's servant. Sarai was unable to have children, so she gave her servant Hagar to her husband Abram to have a child with. When Hagar became pregnant, tensions arose between her and Sarai, leading to mistreatment and Hagar fleeing into the wilderness. In the wilderness, an angel of the Lord found Hagar by a spring and told her to return and submit to Sarai. The angel also promised that her descendants would be numerous, even though she was carrying a son whom she named Ishmael. Hagar then returned to Abram and Sarai. Genesis 16 shows us the consequences of taking matters into our own hands instead of trusting in God's timing and plan. It also highlights God's care for the oppressed and marginalized, as He heard Hagar's cries and provided comfort and guidance for her in her distress.
