About this Chapter

In this chapter, God speaks to Moses and reassures him of His promise to deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. God reminds Moses of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and how He has heard the groaning of His people. God declares that He will bring the Israelites out of Egypt, redeem them with an outstretched arm, and make them His own people. He promises to give them the land of Canaan as an inheritance. However, when Moses tells the Israelites about God's promise, they do not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor. Then, God instructs Moses to go to Pharaoh and demand the release of the Israelites. Moses expresses his own inadequacy and doubts, but God assures him that He will be with him and will perform signs and wonders in Egypt. The chapter ends with a genealogy of Moses and Aaron, highlighting their lineage from Levi. It emphasizes that Moses and Aaron are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh on behalf of the Israelites, and that they are the ones who brought the Israelites out of Egypt.
