About this Chapter

In this chapter, God sends the second plague upon Egypt, which is a plague of frogs. The Lord tells Moses to go to Pharaoh and warn him about the frogs that will come upon the land. When Aaron stretches out his hand, frogs come up and cover the land of Egypt. The frogs are in the houses, the bedrooms, the ovens, and even in the kneading troughs. Pharaoh's magicians are also able to bring up frogs by their secret arts, but the frogs that they bring up only add to the plague. Pharaoh, overwhelmed by the frogs, asks Moses and Aaron to pray to the Lord to take the frogs away. Moses gives Pharaoh the choice of when he wants the frogs to be gone, and Pharaoh asks for them to be removed the next day. The next day, all the frogs die and the land is filled with the stench of dead frogs. But when Pharaoh sees that there is relief from the plague, he hardens his heart and does not let the Israelites go, as the Lord had commanded.
