About this Chapter

In this chapter, God sends a plague upon the livestock of Egypt, killing all the animals belonging to the Egyptians, while sparing the livestock of the Israelites. This is the fifth plague that God brings upon Egypt in order to demonstrate His power and to compel Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Through this plague, God shows His sovereignty over all creation, as He is able to bring disease upon the animals at His command. This also serves as a judgment against the Egyptian gods, as they were often associated with animals. By killing their livestock, God shows that He is the one true God who has power over all. Despite witnessing this miraculous plague, Pharaoh's heart remains hardened, and he refuses to let the Israelites go. This sets the stage for the next plagues that God will bring upon Egypt in order to further demonstrate His power and to bring about the liberation of His people.
