Exodus 16:4
Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.
In Exodus 16, the Israelites are in the wilderness and they start grumbling against Moses and Aaron because they are hungry. God tells Moses that He will rain down bread from heaven for the people to eat. In the evening, quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning, there was a layer of dew around the camp. When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost appeared on the ground. The Israelites called it manna, and they were told to gather enough for each person in their household. However, some of the Israelites did not listen and kept some of the manna until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell. God commanded them to gather enough for each day and not to keep any until morning. On the sixth day, they were to gather twice as much because the next day was the Sabbath, a day of rest where no manna would be provided. The Israelites did as they were told, and the manna miraculously did not spoil when kept until the next day. This chapter shows us that even in the wilderness, God provided for His people. He heard their complaints and met their needs by giving them food. It also teaches us about the importance of trust and obedience. The Israelites had to trust that God would provide for them each day and obey His commandments regarding the manna. Just as God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness, He also provides for us in our times of need.
