Exodus 19:3
Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, "This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel:
In Exodus 19, the Israelites arrived at Mount Sinai after leaving Egypt. God called Moses up to the mountain and instructed him to tell the people that if they obeyed His voice and kept His covenant, they would be His treasured possession and a kingdom of priests. Moses then relayed this message to the people. On the third day, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud over the mountain, and a loud trumpet blast. The people trembled with fear as God descended on the mountain in fire. Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. God spoke to Moses and gave him specific instructions to consecrate the people and set boundaries around the mountain to prevent them from approaching it. The people were to prepare themselves for two days because on the third day, God would come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
