About this Chapter

In this chapter, God gives instructions to Moses regarding the construction of the altar of burnt offering. The altar was to be made of acacia wood and covered with bronze. It was to be square, with a length and width of five cubits. It also had a horn on each of its four corners. A bronze grating was to be made for the altar, and it was to be placed halfway up the altar. The altar was hollow, with a bronze mesh surrounding it, and it had rings and poles for carrying. The altar was to be placed outside the entrance to the tent of meeting, on the north side. The priests were to offer the burnt offerings and sacrifices on this altar. It was a place where the people could come and offer their sacrifices to God, seeking forgiveness and atonement for their sins. The construction of the altar of burnt offering was an important part of the worship system in ancient Israel. It served as a reminder of the need for sacrifice and atonement for sin. It also foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who would offer himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of humanity. Through his sacrifice, we can find forgiveness and reconciliation with God.
