Leviticus 14:1
The LORD said to Moses,
Leviticus 14 describes the process of cleansing from defiling skin diseases, such as leprosy. The chapter outlines the specific rituals and sacrifices that the Israelites were required to perform in order to be declared clean and reintegrated into the community. The chapter begins by explaining that once a person with a skin disease has been healed, they are to go to the priest for an examination. If the priest determines that the person is indeed healed, they are to bring two live clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop for the cleansing ritual. The priest is then instructed to sacrifice one of the birds over fresh water in a clay pot, along with the cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop. The other bird is to be released into the open field, symbolizing the person's release from their disease. The person being cleansed must then wash their clothes, shave off all their hair, and bathe in water before they can be considered clean.
