Leviticus 25:8
"'Count off seven sabbaths of years-seven times seven years-so that the seven sabbaths of years amount to a period of forty-nine years.
In Leviticus 25, God instructs the Israelites about the Year of Jubilee, which was to be observed every 50th year. During this special year, the land was to rest, debts were to be canceled, and slaves were to be set free. It was a time of restoration and renewal, a reminder that everything ultimately belongs to God. The Year of Jubilee began on the Day of Atonement, when the trumpet was sounded throughout the land. The Israelites were instructed to consecrate the 50th year as holy and proclaim liberty throughout the land. This special year was a time of great celebration and freedom, as everyone had the opportunity to return to their ancestral property and be reunited with their families. The Year of Jubilee served as a reminder of God's provision and care for His people. It was a way for God to ensure that no one would be permanently enslaved or impoverished, and that the land would not be permanently owned by a few wealthy individuals. It was a time of equalizing and redistributing resources, a reflection of God's justice and mercy.
