Numbers 19:2
"This is a requirement of the law that the LORD has commanded: Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke.
Numbers 19 describes the law of the red heifer, which was a purification ceremony for those who were ceremonially unclean. The Israelites were instructed to bring a red heifer without any defects and give it to the priest. The priest would then slaughter the heifer outside the camp and sprinkle its blood seven times in front of the Tabernacle. The heifer would be burned along with cedar wood, hyssop, and scarlet wool. The ashes of the heifer would be mixed with water and used to purify those who had come into contact with a dead body. This ceremony was necessary because contact with a dead body made a person unclean, and being unclean prevented them from participating in certain religious activities. The ashes of the red heifer provided a way for the Israelites to be cleansed and restored to a state of ritual purity. It was a symbol of God's grace and forgiveness, allowing them to be reconciled with Him and fully participate in worship. The law of the red heifer also foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who would be the perfect Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. Just as the red heifer had to be without blemish, Jesus was without sin. His sacrifice would cleanse not just from physical impurity, but from the guilt and power of sin. Through faith in Jesus, we can be purified and made right with God, experiencing true spiritual cleansing and forgiveness.
