Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
In this chapter, Balaam, a non-Israelite prophet, is hired by Balak, the king of Moab, to curse the Israelites. However, every time Balaam tries to curse them, God intervenes and turns his curses into blessings. Balaam acknowledges that he can only speak the words that God puts in his mouth. The key verse of this chapter is found in Numbers 23:19, where Balaam declares, 'God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?' This verse emphasizes the faithfulness and reliability of God's promises. Through this story, we learn that God's blessings cannot be thwarted by human efforts. Even when others try to harm or curse us, God can turn their plans around for our good. It reminds us of the importance of trusting in God's faithfulness and relying on His promises, knowing that He will always fulfill what He has spoken.
