Numbers 36:6
This is what the LORD commands for Zelophehad's daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within the tribal clan of their father.
In this chapter, the leaders of the families of the clan of Gilead approached Moses and the leaders of Israel with a concern regarding the inheritance of Zelophehad's daughters. They brought up the issue that if these daughters married men from another tribe, their inheritance would be transferred to the tribe of their husbands. To address this concern, God commanded that the daughters of Zelophehad must marry within their own tribe, so that the inheritance would remain within their tribe and not be transferred to another tribe. This law was not only applied to Zelophehad's daughters but to all women who inherited property. It ensured that the land would not be transferred from one tribe to another, but would remain in the possession of the tribe to which it was originally allotted. This law protected the integrity of the tribal inheritance and prevented the loss of land from one tribe to another. The leaders of the clan of Gilead were satisfied with this commandment and agreed to follow it. They acknowledged that this was a just and fair decision that would preserve the inheritance of each tribe. This chapter concludes the book of Numbers, highlighting the importance of maintaining the integrity of the tribal inheritance and the faithfulness of the people of Israel in following God's commands.
