The LORD wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.

About this Chapter

After Moses broke the first set of tablets containing the Ten Commandments, he made a second set of tablets and God wrote on them the same words as the first set. These tablets were then placed in the ark of the covenant. In this chapter, Moses recounts the time when he received the replacement tablets from God. He emphasizes that the Lord had chosen the Levites to carry the ark of the covenant and to minister before Him. Moses also reminds the people of God's faithfulness and love towards them, urging them to fear and obey Him. The story of the replacement tablets serves as a reminder of God's grace and forgiveness. Despite the Israelites' disobedience and the breaking of the first set of tablets, God gave them another chance. It also highlights the importance of obedience and reverence towards God, as demonstrated through the Levites' role in carrying the ark and ministering before Him.
