Deuteronomy 21:18
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him,
Deuteronomy 21 covers various laws and regulations for different situations. It begins by addressing the case of a rebellious son who does not obey his parents. The law states that if a son is stubborn and rebellious, and does not listen to his parents even after they have disciplined him, then the parents can bring him before the elders of the town. The elders will then investigate the matter and if they find the son guilty, he will be stoned to death. The chapter also includes laws regarding the treatment of a murdered person whose killer is unknown. In such cases, the elders and judges of the town closest to where the body is found must measure the distance to the surrounding towns and determine which town is closest. The elders of that town then take a heifer that has never been worked and has never worn a yoke, and they bring it down to a valley with flowing water. There, they break the heifer's neck and wash their hands over it, declaring that they did not shed the innocent blood and that they have followed the Lord's instructions. Furthermore, Deuteronomy 21 addresses the laws regarding marrying captive women. If a man desires to marry a woman captured in war, he must bring her into his home, shave her head, trim her nails, and give her time to mourn for her parents. During this time, the man must treat her with respect and cannot sell her as a slave. If the man later decides that he no longer wants to be married to her, he must set her free and cannot treat her as a slave or sell her for money.
