Deuteronomy 26:1
When you have entered the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance and have taken possession of it and settled in it,
In this chapter, Moses instructs the Israelites on how to offer the firstfruits of their harvest to the Lord. They are to bring a basket of the firstfruits to the place where the Lord chooses to dwell, and present it to the priest, declaring their gratitude and acknowledging God's faithfulness in bringing them to the promised land. The people are reminded of their history, how they were once enslaved in Egypt and how God delivered them with His mighty hand. They are to remember that the land they now possess is a gift from God, and by offering the firstfruits, they are acknowledging His provision and sovereignty. Furthermore, the people are instructed to give a tithe of their produce every third year to support the Levites, the foreigners, the fatherless, and the widows in their community. Through these offerings, the Israelites are called to demonstrate their love for God and their concern for the less fortunate among them.
