About this Chapter

In this chapter, we learn about Rahab, a prostitute in the city of Jericho, who helps two Israelite spies sent by Joshua. Rahab hides the spies on her roof and lies to the king's men about their whereabouts. She tells the spies that she believes in the Lord and has heard about the great things He has done for the Israelites. Rahab asks for protection for herself and her family when the Israelites conquer Jericho. Rahab's actions show her faith in God and her willingness to risk her life to help His people. She is commended for her faith in the New Testament book of Hebrews (Hebrews 11:31) and is included in the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5). Rahab's story teaches us that God can use anyone, regardless of their past or occupation, for His purposes. This chapter also highlights Joshua's leadership and his obedience to God's command to send spies into the land. The spies' successful mission gives the Israelites confidence that God is with them and will help them conquer the land of Canaan. It reminds us that when we trust and obey God, He will guide and protect us in our own journeys.
