The allotment for Joseph began at the Jordan of Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, and went up from there through the desert into the hill country of Bethel.

About this Chapter

The land of Canaan was divided among the Israelite tribes, and in this chapter, the allotment for the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh is described. The border of the inheritance for the tribe of Ephraim was established from the Jordan River to the territory of the descendants of Joseph. However, the people of Ephraim did not fully drive out the Canaanites who were living in Gezer, so they lived among them as forced laborers. The tribe of Manasseh also failed to drive out the Canaanites in several cities. Despite their failure to completely possess the land, the people of Ephraim and Manasseh were still blessed with a portion of the Promised Land. This serves as a reminder that even in our own lives, we may face challenges and setbacks, but God's promises are still true and His blessings are still available to us.
