About this Chapter

After the Israelites had settled in the Promised Land, there were still seven tribes who had not received their inheritance. So Joshua gathered the remaining tribes at Shiloh and said to them, 'How long will you wait before you take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you?' Joshua then instructed three men from each tribe to go throughout the land and survey it, and to return to him with a description of the land. They were to divide the land into seven portions and bring their report to Joshua, who would then cast lots to determine the inheritance of each tribe. The men went out and surveyed the land, dividing it into seven portions. They returned to Joshua in Shiloh and presented their report. Joshua then cast lots for each tribe and assigned them their inheritance. The tribe of Benjamin received their portion last, and their inheritance was located between the territories of the other tribes.
