Easy Bible・Joshua 24
Joshua 24:14
"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
In Joshua 24, Joshua gathers all the tribes of Israel at Shechem to deliver his farewell address. He reminds them of all that God has done for them, from the time of their ancestors to the present day. Joshua then presents the people with a choice - to serve the Lord or to serve the gods of the nations around them. He encourages them to choose wisely and declares his commitment to serving the Lord. The people respond by affirming their desire to serve the Lord alone. Joshua then warns them of the consequences of forsaking the Lord and worshiping other gods, but the people insist that they will not abandon the Lord. After making a covenant with the people, Joshua sets up a stone as a witness to their commitment. The chapter concludes with Joshua's death and burial, as well as the burial of the bones of Joseph, which had been brought up from Egypt. The book of Joshua ends with a reminder of how God fulfilled all his promises to Israel.
