Judges 2:11
Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals.
After Joshua died, the Israelites forgot about the Lord and turned to worshiping other gods. They abandoned the ways of the Lord and did evil in His sight. As a result, God allowed their enemies to conquer them and oppress them. When the Israelites cried out to the Lord for help, He raised up judges to deliver them from their enemies. However, after each judge died, the Israelites would again turn away from the Lord and go back to their sinful ways. This cycle of disobedience and deliverance continued throughout the time of the judges. The Israelites' disobedience was a constant struggle for them. They failed to fully follow God's commands and instead embraced the practices and beliefs of the surrounding nations. This led to their downfall and suffering. Despite God's faithfulness in raising up judges to save them, the Israelites repeatedly turned their backs on Him. The book of Judges serves as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience and the need for repentance. It shows the importance of staying faithful to God and the dangers of idolatry. The cycle of disobedience and deliverance in the book of Judges reflects the ongoing struggle between God's desire for His people to be holy and their tendency to rebel against Him. It is a call for us to examine our own lives and make sure that we are not falling into the same pattern of disobedience.
