Easy Bible・Judges 10
Judges 10:16
Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the LORD. And he could bear Israel's misery no longer.
In Judges 10, the Israelites once again turned away from God and started worshiping other gods. As a result, God allowed them to be oppressed by the Philistines and the Ammonites for 18 years. The Israelites cried out to God for help, and God responded by reminding them of their past rebellions and the consequences they had faced. However, despite their disobedience, God had mercy on them and raised up Jephthah as a judge to deliver them from their enemies. Jephthah tried to negotiate with the Ammonites, but they refused to listen. So, he gathered an army and prepared for battle. Before going into battle, Jephthah made a vow to God, promising to sacrifice the first thing that came out of his house if God gave him victory. God granted Jephthah success, and when he returned home, his daughter came out to greet him. Jephthah was devastated because he had made a hasty vow, but he kept his promise and sacrificed his daughter as he had vowed. The chapter ends with a summary of the judges who ruled over Israel during this time, highlighting the cycle of rebellion, oppression, and deliverance that characterized the period of the judges. Despite the Israelites' repeated failures, God remained faithful and continued to show them mercy.
