Easy Bible・Judges 12
Judges 12:6
they said, "All right, say 'Shibboleth.'" If he said, "Sibboleth," because he could not pronounce the word correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time.
In this chapter, the Ephraimites quarrel with Jephthah because they were not included in the battle against the Ammonites. Jephthah reminds them that he called for their help but they did not come, and now that the battle is over, they are complaining. The Ephraimites become angry and threaten to burn Jephthah's house down, but Jephthah and his men defeat them in battle, killing 42,000 Ephraimites. Jephthah judges Israel for six years and then dies. He is buried in his hometown. After Jephthah, three more judges, Ibzan, Elon, and Abdon, lead Israel for a total of 25 years.
