Easy Bible・Judges 17
Judges 17:6
In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.
In this chapter, we learn about a man named Micah who made idols and established his own private shrine. Micah had stolen a large sum of money from his mother, but when he returned it, she used a portion of it to make a carved image and an idol. Micah then set up a shrine in his house, made an ephod and some household gods, and consecrated one of his sons as a priest. A young Levite from Bethlehem came to Micah's house and agreed to become his personal priest, which Micah saw as a sign of God's favor. This chapter highlights the spiritual corruption and moral decay that had taken hold in Israel during the time of the judges. Micah's actions were a clear violation of God's commandments, as he created and worshiped idols, which was strictly forbidden. It also reveals the lack of proper leadership and guidance in Israel, as people like Micah took matters into their own hands and established their own religious practices. As we reflect on this chapter, we are reminded of the importance of staying faithful to God's commandments and not creating our own versions of worship. It serves as a warning against compromising our faith and following our own desires instead of seeking God's will. May we always strive to follow God wholeheartedly and seek His guidance in all areas of our lives.
