Ruth 2:12
May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge."
In this chapter, Ruth goes to glean in the fields to provide for herself and her mother-in-law Naomi. By God's providence, she ends up in the field belonging to Boaz, who is a relative of Naomi's late husband. Boaz shows kindness and favor to Ruth, instructing his workers to leave extra grain for her to gather. Ruth is grateful and humbled by Boaz's generosity. When Ruth returns home, she tells Naomi about her encounter with Boaz. Naomi recognizes that Boaz is a close relative and realizes that he could be their kinsman-redeemer. This means that Boaz has the potential to marry Ruth and redeem their family's land and name. Naomi advises Ruth to continue working in Boaz's field throughout the barley and wheat harvests. Ruth follows Naomi's advice and continues gleaning in Boaz's field, finding favor and protection there. Boaz continues to show kindness to Ruth, ensuring that she has enough food to eat and even inviting her to share a meal with him and his workers.
