1 Samuel 3:10
The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."

About this Chapter

In this chapter, God calls Samuel to be a prophet. Samuel was serving in the house of the Lord under the high priest Eli. One night, while Samuel was lying down, God called his name. Samuel thought it was Eli calling him, so he went to Eli. This happened three times until Eli realized that it was God calling Samuel. Then Eli instructed Samuel to respond to God by saying, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.' When Samuel did as Eli told him, God revealed himself to Samuel and gave him a message. From that day on, Samuel became a prophet of the Lord, and God's word was always fulfilled through him. This chapter teaches us the importance of listening to God's voice and being obedient to His call. Just like Samuel, God may be calling us to serve Him in a specific way. We need to be attentive and responsive to His calling, and trust that He will equip us for the task He has given us.
