Key Passages

1 Samuel 14:23
So the LORD rescued Israel that day, and the battle moved on beyond Beth Aven.

About this Chapter

Jonathan and his armor-bearer attacked a Philistine outpost, causing panic and confusion among the Philistines. God gave them a great victory, and the Israelites who had been hiding in fear joined in the battle. The Lord rescued Israel that day. However, Saul had made a rash oath that no one should eat until evening, not knowing that Jonathan had eaten some honey during the battle. When the people found a honeycomb, they ate it without realizing the oath. Saul wanted to know who had violated the oath, and when he discovered it was Jonathan, he declared that Jonathan must die. But the people intervened, recognizing that Jonathan had brought about the great victory for Israel. Throughout this chapter, we see Jonathan's faith and courage in action. He trusted in God's power and was willing to take risks for the sake of his people. Jonathan's bold attack on the Philistines not only brought victory but also revealed the flaws in Saul's leadership. It serves as a reminder that God can use anyone, regardless of their status or position, to accomplish His purposes.
