Easy Bible・1 Samuel 17
1 Samuel 17:45
David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
In this chapter, we find the famous story of David and Goliath. The Philistines and the Israelites were at war, and the Philistines had a champion named Goliath who was over nine feet tall. Goliath challenged the Israelites to send out a champion to fight him, but no one was willing to face him. David, who was a young shepherd boy, volunteered to fight Goliath. Despite being much smaller and inexperienced in battle, David had faith in God and believed that God would deliver him from the hands of the giant. When David approached Goliath, he declared, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied." David then took a stone from his bag, slung it, and struck Goliath on the forehead. Goliath fell to the ground, and David killed him with his own sword. This victory showed that it was not by human strength or weapons, but by God's power, that the battle was won. The story of David and Goliath teaches us that no matter how big or powerful our enemies may seem, we can trust in God to give us the strength and courage to overcome them. It also reminds us that God often chooses the weak and unlikely people to accomplish great things. Just as David, a young shepherd boy, defeated the mighty Goliath, we too can overcome the challenges we face with God's help.
