Easy Bible・1 Samuel 24
1 Samuel 24:10
This day you have seen with your own eyes how the LORD delivered you into my hands in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you; I said, 'I will not lift my hand against my master, because he is the LORD's anointed.'
In this chapter, David has the opportunity to kill Saul, who is pursuing him. However, David spares Saul's life, choosing not to harm God's anointed king. When Saul enters a cave to relieve himself, David's men encourage him to seize the opportunity and kill Saul. But instead, David secretly cuts off a corner of Saul's robe. After Saul leaves the cave, David shows himself and reveals that he had the chance to kill Saul but refrained from doing so. David acknowledges that it is not his place to harm the king whom God has anointed. He trusts that God will deal with Saul in His own time and way. This act of mercy from David demonstrates his respect for God's authority and his refusal to take matters into his own hands.
