Easy Bible・1 Samuel 26
1 Samuel 26:23
The LORD rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness. The LORD delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the LORD's anointed.
In this chapter, David once again has the opportunity to kill Saul, who is pursuing him. David and his men find Saul sleeping in the camp, but instead of taking revenge, David spares Saul's life. David's companion, Abishai, urges him to kill Saul, but David refuses, saying that he will not lay a hand on the Lord's anointed. David takes Saul's spear and water jug as proof that he was near Saul, and then calls out to him from a safe distance. David pleads with Saul to listen to him and asks why he is pursuing him. Saul recognizes David's voice and acknowledges his wrongdoing. David assures Saul that he means him no harm and that God will judge between them. Saul admits his mistake and blesses David before returning home.
