Easy Bible・1 Samuel 27
1 Samuel 27:1
But David thought to himself, "One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of Saul. The best thing I can do is to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I will slip out of his hand."
In 1 Samuel 27, David, fearing for his life, decides to seek refuge among the Philistines. He goes to Achish, the king of Gath, and asks for a place to settle. Achish grants him the town of Ziklag, and David lives there for a year and four months. During his time in Ziklag, David and his men go on raids against the enemies of the Philistines, making it appear as though they are attacking the Israelites. David does this to deceive Achish and gain his trust. However, he secretly targets the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites, leaving no survivors to tell Achish the truth. David's actions in seeking refuge among the Philistines and deceiving Achish may seem questionable, but it is important to remember the context. David was constantly on the run from King Saul, who sought to kill him. David's decision to live among the Philistines was a desperate measure to ensure his own safety and the safety of his men. Despite his actions, David remained faithful to God and continued to rely on Him for guidance and protection.
