About this Chapter

In this chapter, we witness the tragic end of Saul's life. The Philistines waged war against Israel, and the battle went against Saul and his sons. The Philistines struck down Saul's sons, including Jonathan, and Saul himself was critically wounded by an archer. Saul, realizing that he was about to be captured and tortured, asked his armor-bearer to kill him. However, the armor-bearer was too afraid to do so, so Saul took his own life by falling on his own sword. When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died. The next day, the Philistines found Saul's body and those of his sons on the battlefield. They cut off Saul's head and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan. The people of Jabesh Gilead, who had been rescued by Saul earlier, heard about what the Philistines had done. So, they came to Beth Shan, took down the bodies, and gave them a proper burial.
