About this Chapter

In this chapter, we read about the murder of Ish-Bosheth, the son of Saul, who was the king of Israel. Two men, Rekab and Baanah, the sons of Rimmon, who belonged to the tribe of Benjamin, came to Ish-Bosheth's house during the heat of the day while he was taking a nap. They entered the house as if to get some wheat, but instead, they killed Ish-Bosheth by stabbing him in the stomach. After the murder, they cut off his head and took it to David, thinking they would be rewarded for their action. However, David did not approve of their actions. He was deeply saddened by the news of Ish-Bosheth's murder and saw it as a wicked act. David commanded his men to kill Rekab and Baanah as a punishment for their crime. He wanted to make it clear that he had no part in the murder of Saul's son, and he wanted to show respect to the house of Saul. This chapter serves as a reminder of David's integrity and his commitment to justice. Despite the opportunity to gain power and eliminate a potential threat, David chose to do what was right in God's eyes. He valued the sanctity of human life and showed respect for the house of Saul, even though he knew that he was the rightful king of Israel. David's actions in this chapter demonstrate his character and his desire to lead the nation with righteousness and fairness.
