2 Samuel 6:12
Now King David was told, "The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God." So David went down and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.

About this Chapter

After successfully defeating the Philistines and establishing his reign over all Israel, David decided to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. He gathered thirty thousand chosen men from Israel and set out with great joy to bring the Ark from the house of Abinadab on a new cart. They placed the Ark on the cart, and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, guided the cart while David and all the Israelites celebrated with all their might before the Lord. As they were bringing the Ark, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the Ark. However, the Lord's anger burned against Uzzah because he touched the Ark. Uzzah was struck dead on the spot. David became angry and afraid of the Lord, so he decided not to bring the Ark to Jerusalem. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The Ark remained in the house of Obed-Edom for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household. When David heard about the blessings, he realized that the Lord's presence was bringing blessings, so he decided to bring the Ark to Jerusalem once again. This time, they carried the Ark on poles, as commanded by God, and with great rejoicing and sacrifices, David successfully brought the Ark to Jerusalem and placed it in a tent he had prepared for it.
