Key Passages

2 Samuel 9:7
"Don't be afraid," David said to him, "for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table."

About this Chapter

In this chapter, David seeks to show kindness to anyone from the house of Saul for the sake of his friend Jonathan. He finds out that Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth who was crippled in both feet. David invites Mephibosheth to live in Jerusalem, restores all the land that belonged to Saul, and allows him to eat at the king's table like one of his own sons. David's act of kindness towards Mephibosheth is a beautiful example of God's grace and mercy. Mephibosheth, who was once an outcast and had nothing to offer, is now welcomed into the king's presence and treated as a member of the royal family. This story reminds us that no matter our background or circumstances, God's love and kindness are available to us. Furthermore, this chapter also serves as a reminder of the covenant between David and Jonathan. Despite the conflicts and challenges David faced as the king, he remained faithful to his promise to show kindness to Jonathan's descendants. This covenant reflects God's faithfulness to His people and His commitment to fulfill His promises.
