Easy Bible・2 Samuel 14
2 Samuel 14:33
So Joab went to the king and told him this. Then the king summoned Absalom, and he came in and bowed down with his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.
After Absalom had been banished from Jerusalem for killing his brother Amnon, Joab, David's commander, devised a plan to bring Absalom back. Absalom returned to Jerusalem, but David refused to see him for two years. Finally, Joab persuaded David to allow Absalom into his presence. When Absalom returned, he was a handsome man with beautiful hair. He had three sons and a daughter named Tamar. However, despite his return, Absalom was not fully restored to David's favor. David mourned for Absalom and longed to see him, but he did not allow him to come to the palace. This chapter highlights the complicated relationship between David and Absalom. It shows the tension between a father's love for his son and his duty as a king. David's grief over Absalom's actions and his longing for his son's presence reveal the depth of his emotions. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences of sin and the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation.
