Easy Bible・2 Samuel 16
2 Samuel 16:1
When David had gone a short distance beyond the summit, there was Ziba, the steward of Mephibosheth, waiting to meet him. He had a string of donkeys saddled and loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred cakes of raisins, a hundred cakes of figs and a skin of wine.
In this chapter, we see David encountering Ziba, the servant of Saul's grandson, Mephibosheth. Ziba brings David supplies and donkeys for his journey, and David shows mercy to him by granting him all of Mephibosheth's land. Ziba claims that Mephibosheth has betrayed David and stayed in Jerusalem, hoping that the kingdom will be restored to the house of Saul. As a result, David gives all of Mephibosheth's land to Ziba. However, later in the story, we find out that Ziba may have been lying about Mephibosheth's intentions. When David returns to Jerusalem, Mephibosheth explains that Ziba had deceived him and left him behind when he fled. David then decides to divide the land between Ziba and Mephibosheth.
