About this Chapter

After Absalom's rebellion was crushed, David returned to Jerusalem. He was met by Shimei, who had cursed him during his escape, but David showed mercy and forgave him. David also showed his wisdom by appointing Amasa as the new commander of his army, replacing Joab. As David approached the Jordan River, he was welcomed by the people of Judah who had supported him during the rebellion. The people of Israel, however, were divided in their loyalty between David and Absalom. This led to a conflict between the tribes of Judah and Israel, which was eventually resolved through the intervention of the wise woman of Abel Beth Maakah. David's return to Jerusalem marked the end of a tumultuous period in his reign. Despite the challenges he faced, David showed forgiveness, wisdom, and a desire for reconciliation. This chapter reminds us of the importance of forgiveness and the power of reconciliation in restoring relationships.
