Easy Bible・1 Kings 5
1 Kings 5:5
I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the LORD my God, as the LORD told my father David, when he said, 'Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.'
In this chapter, Solomon begins preparations to build the temple of the Lord. He sends a message to Hiram, the king of Tyre, requesting materials and skilled workers. Hiram agrees to help and provides Solomon with cedar and cypress logs, as well as skilled workers in stone and timber. Solomon then organizes a large workforce of Israelites and foreigners to assist in the construction of the temple. Solomon's request to Hiram and Hiram's willingness to help highlight the importance of collaboration and unity in carrying out God's work. The temple, which would become a central place of worship for the Israelites, required the combined efforts and resources of multiple nations. It also serves as a reminder that God's work often involves the participation and contribution of various individuals and communities. Additionally, the preparations made by Solomon demonstrate his commitment to honoring God through the construction of a magnificent temple. By gathering the necessary materials and skilled workers, Solomon shows his dedication to creating a place where God's presence can dwell and where the Israelites can worship Him. This chapter sets the stage for the construction of the temple, which will be described in detail in the following chapters.
