Easy Bible・1 Kings 22
1 Kings 22:19
Micaiah continued, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left.
In 1 Kings 22, King Ahab of Israel wanted to go to war against Ramoth Gilead. He gathered his prophets and asked for their advice. They all agreed that he should go and promised him victory. However, Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, suggested that they inquire of the Lord. So Ahab summoned Micaiah, a prophet of the Lord, who initially gave the same answer as the other prophets. But when pressed, Micaiah revealed that he had seen a vision of the Lord sitting on his throne, and the Lord had asked who would entice Ahab to go to his death in Ramoth Gilead. A spirit volunteered to be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of Ahab's prophets, and the Lord allowed it. Micaiah warned Ahab that the prophets were lying to him, and he would not return from the battle alive. This passage teaches us the importance of seeking the Lord's guidance in our decisions. Ahab was surrounded by prophets who told him what he wanted to hear, but Micaiah was the only one who spoke the truth. Sometimes, we may be tempted to listen to people who tell us what we want to hear, but it is crucial to seek the Lord's wisdom and discernment. God knows what is best for us and can guide us in the right direction. Additionally, this passage reminds us that there are spiritual forces at work, both for good and evil. The deceiving spirit in the mouths of Ahab's prophets shows that there are forces that seek to lead us astray and deceive us. We need to be vigilant and discerning, relying on the Holy Spirit to guide us and protect us from deception. Let us always seek the truth and be willing to hear and accept it, even if it goes against our desires or the popular opinion.
