2 Kings 1:2
Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers, saying to them, "Go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if I will recover from this injury."

About this Chapter

Ahaziah, the king of Israel, fell through the lattice of his upper room and was seriously injured. Instead of seeking guidance from God, he sent messengers to inquire of the false god, Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron. Elijah, the prophet of God, intercepted the messengers and prophesied that Ahaziah would die because of his lack of faith in the true God. When the messengers returned to Ahaziah and delivered Elijah's message, Ahaziah became angry and sent a captain with fifty men to arrest Elijah. However, Elijah called down fire from heaven and consumed the captain and his fifty men. Ahaziah sent another captain with fifty men, but the same fate befell them. Finally, Ahaziah sent a third captain with fifty men, but this time, the captain humbly pleaded for Elijah's life, and God spared them. After witnessing the power of God, Ahaziah acknowledged that Elijah was indeed a man of God and went to meet him. However, even then, Ahaziah did not repent of his sins and ultimately died, just as Elijah had prophesied.
