About this Chapter

In the second year of the reign of Joash's son Amaziah, king of Judah, he became king at the age of twenty-five, and he reigned in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years. His mother's name was Jehoaddan; she was from Jerusalem. Amaziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not as his father David had done. He followed the example of his father Joash in most things, except that he did not destroy the high places where the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense. Amaziah was successful in his military campaigns against the Edomites, and he even captured their capital city, Sela. However, he brought back their false gods and set them up as his own gods, worshiping and bowing down to them. This angered the Lord, and a prophet confronted Amaziah, warning him of the consequences of his actions.
