2 Kings 15:32
In the second year of Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham son of Uzziah king of Judah began to reign.
In this chapter, we learn about the reigns of Azariah, Jotham, and Zechariah. Azariah became king of Judah at the age of sixteen and reigned for fifty-two years. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but he did not remove the high places where people continued to offer sacrifices. Jotham succeeded his father Azariah as king and reigned for sixteen years. He also did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but the high places were not removed. Zechariah became king of Israel and reigned for only six months before being assassinated by Shallum. During the reign of Azariah, the king of Israel, Jeroboam II, also ruled. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit. The Lord afflicted Azariah with leprosy, and he lived in a separate house until his death. Jotham, his son, then became king in his place. Zechariah, the king of Israel, followed the footsteps of his predecessors and did evil in the eyes of the Lord. He was assassinated by Shallum, who then became king. These kings ruled during a time of political instability and disobedience to God's commands, which ultimately led to the downfall of both the kingdoms of Judah and Israel.
