Easy Bible・2 Kings 19
2 Kings 19:14
Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
After receiving a threatening letter from the Assyrian king, Sennacherib, Hezekiah went to the temple and spread the letter before the Lord. Hezekiah sought the help and guidance of the prophet Isaiah, asking him to pray for the remnant that was left. Isaiah reassured Hezekiah that God had heard his prayer and would deliver Jerusalem from the hands of the Assyrians. Isaiah prophesied that the king of Assyria would be defeated and would not even shoot an arrow into the city. That night, the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. When Sennacherib woke up the next morning, he found his army in ruins and returned to Assyria in disgrace. Thus, God delivered Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the Assyrian threat.
