Easy Bible・2 Kings 20
2 Kings 20:1
In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, "This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover."
In this chapter, King Hezekiah becomes terminally ill and is told by the prophet Isaiah that he will die. However, Hezekiah pleads with God and weeps bitterly, reminding Him of his faithfulness. God hears Hezekiah's prayer and tells Isaiah to deliver a message to the king, saying that He has seen his tears and will heal him. Isaiah instructs Hezekiah to apply a poultice of figs to his boil, and he will recover in three days. God not only extends Hezekiah's life but also promises to deliver him and the city of Jerusalem from the Assyrian king. As a sign of this promise, God makes the shadow on the stairway of Ahaz go back ten steps. Hezekiah expresses his gratitude by composing a poem of thanksgiving. However, Hezekiah's pride becomes a stumbling block, as he shows off the treasures of his kingdom to the Babylonian envoys. Isaiah prophesies that all these treasures will be carried off to Babylon in the future. This chapter teaches us the power of prayer and God's faithfulness to His people. Hezekiah's earnest prayer moves God's heart, and He responds with mercy and healing. It also reminds us to be humble and not to boast in our own achievements, as pride can lead to downfall. God's promises are sure, and He will always be with His people, delivering them from their enemies and providing for their needs.
