2 Kings 22:1
Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. His mother's name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah; she was from Bozkath.
In the eighteenth year of his reign, King Josiah ordered the repair and restoration of the temple of the Lord. During the renovation, Hilkiah the high priest discovered the Book of the Law, which had been neglected and forgotten for many years. When the book was read to Josiah, he tore his robes in distress and sought the Lord's guidance. Josiah recognized that the people had strayed from God's commands and were facing His judgment. He sent Hilkiah and other officials to inquire of the Lord through the prophetess Huldah. Huldah confirmed that because the people had forsaken the Lord and worshipped other gods, disaster would come upon them. However, because Josiah had humbled himself and repented, God promised that the disaster would not occur during his reign. Upon hearing the words of the Book of the Law, Josiah gathered all the elders and people of Judah, and he read the entire book to them. He then made a covenant with the Lord to follow His commands and keep His laws with all their hearts and souls. Josiah led the people in a thorough cleansing of the land, removing all the idols and false gods. He celebrated a Passover feast like no other, and his reign was marked by faithfulness to God's word.
