Easy Bible・2 Kings 24
2 Kings 24:20
It was because of the LORD's anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from his presence. Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
This chapter describes the fall of Judah and the beginning of the Babylonian captivity. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked Jerusalem and besieged it. King Jehoiachin of Judah surrendered to Nebuchadnezzar and was taken captive to Babylon, along with many other people. Nebuchadnezzar appointed Jehoiachin's uncle, Mattaniah, as king and changed his name to Zedekiah. However, Zedekiah rebelled against Babylon, leading to the complete destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. During Zedekiah's reign, Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem for about two years. The city was eventually captured, and Zedekiah was captured and brought before Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar killed Zedekiah's sons in front of him and then blinded him. The Babylonians also destroyed the temple, taking away all the treasures and burning it down. The people of Judah were taken captive to Babylon, fulfilling the prophecy of Jeremiah. This chapter serves as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience to God. Despite numerous warnings from the prophets, the people of Judah continued to worship idols and reject God's laws. As a result, they faced the devastating consequences of their actions, including the destruction of their city and the exile of their people. It is a sobering reminder of the importance of staying faithful to God and following His commands.
