Easy Bible・2 Kings 25
2 Kings 25:1
So in the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army. He encamped outside the city and built siege works all around it.
In this chapter, we read about the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple by the Babylonians. After a long siege, the city was finally captured on the ninth day of the fourth month. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon personally came to Jerusalem and his army set fire to the temple, the royal palace, and all the houses in the city. The walls of Jerusalem were broken down and the people were taken captive to Babylon. The Babylonians also killed the sons of King Zedekiah before his eyes, and then put out his eyes and bound him with bronze shackles. The city was left in ruins, and the Babylonians appointed Gedaliah as governor over the remnant of the people who were left in the land. This chapter serves as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience and the fulfillment of God's judgment. The destruction of Jerusalem and the temple was a devastating event for the Israelites, but it was a result of their persistent rebellion against God and their refusal to heed the warnings of the prophets. It is a sobering reminder of the importance of obedience and the consequences that come when we turn away from God.
