1 Chronicles 21:1
Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, David, the king of Israel, made a sinful decision to count the number of fighting men in his kingdom, which was against God's command. This act displeased God, and as a result, He sent a plague upon Israel. David's commander, Joab, warned him against this action, but David insisted and ordered a census to be taken. The census revealed that there were 1,100,000 men capable of bearing arms in Israel, which made David proud and boastful. God gave David three options for his punishment: three years of famine, three months of being swept away by his enemies, or three days of plague in the land. David chose the plague, and seventy thousand people died as a result. When the angel of the Lord was about to destroy Jerusalem, God showed mercy and stopped the plague.
