2 Chronicles 12:14
He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, we see how Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, ruled over Judah after the kingdom was divided. Unfortunately, Rehoboam did evil in the sight of the Lord, and as a result, the kingdom of Judah was attacked by Shishak, the king of Egypt. Shishak plundered the treasures of the temple and the royal palace, taking away all the gold shields that Solomon had made. However, despite Rehoboam's disobedience, God showed mercy to him and the people of Judah. When the prophet Shemaiah delivered God's message to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah, they humbled themselves and acknowledged their wrongdoing. As a result, God did not destroy them completely, but allowed them to remain as subjects under Shishak's rule. This chapter serves as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience and the importance of humbling ourselves before God. Even when we make mistakes, God is willing to show us mercy if we repent and turn back to Him. Let us learn from Rehoboam's downfall and strive to live in obedience to God's commands.
